Kids and Youth Making Communities Safer

Start Date
Imagining a World Without Police

SURJ -Toronto invites kids and youth in Grade 4 and up* to be part of a facilitated arts workshop where we can imagine another world together!

We want to know what you think would make your community safer!

Toronto Police Service gets to spend more than a billion dollars each year! Black Lives Matter - Toronto has put out a call to have half of that money be spent on things to help keep people safe and healthy. How would you spend that money to keep your community safe?

Come together with other kids and youth to creatively imagine a world with less police that keeps everyone safe.

What you create will be part of a zine that we’ll share with politicians and other people who decide what Toronto’s money gets spent on! So let’s shape our future together! This activity is inspired by the work of artist and educator Sarah Mangle.

This is a pay what you can workshop. All funds raised will support the work of Latinx, Afro-Latin-America, Abya Yala Education Network (LAEN), who are actively working to get police out of schools across Ontario. Please contribute via e-transfer to surjto.fundraising@gmail.com. Question: how can kids help defund the police? Answer: surjto.

*This is the suggested age, but younger kids are welcome to attend with an adult’s support.
