What is the Youth Host Program?

The Youth Host Program helps newcomer youth adjust to life in Ontario.

Here's how it works:

A newcomer youth (such as yourself) is matched with youth volunteers. Volunteers are recruited from your community and they are matched with newcomers based on age, interests and gender. This is either done at your school or at your local settlement agency.

Together, the newcomer youth and volunteer take part in different activities. They may include:

  • Outdoor/indoor sports, board games, and educational trips
  • After-school homework help
  • Cooking classes and Arts and Crafts
  • English Conversation Circles (to help you with speaking and grammar)
  • Workshops on topics important to newcomer youth (like how to write a resume or find a job)

This program will give you the opportunity to meet new people and learn more about your community. You will learn more about your school, how to get around your city, and participate in fun activities, all while making new friends.

Usually the age requirement for the Youth Host Program is between the ages of 13-24, but it is a good idea to ask. If you do not qualify for a Youth Host Program because of your age, check out the Host Program for older youth and adults.

And remember: The Host Program is FREE!

  • At you school, ask your ESL teacher or Settlement Worker if your school offers a Host Program
  • Contact your local settlement agency to find out if they are offering a Host Program. Not all settlement agencies offer it, so you will have to look for one that does

There are several agencies that offer a Host Program. Here is a list of some of the organizations.
