    Hi Anonymous,

Any questions or issues you may have regarding your OSAP application status are best answered by your school's Financial Aid office. Simply show them the letter OSAP has sent you and they will be able to provide you with more information, including if your loan is ready to be picked up.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, let us know.

    Hi Anonymous,

If you would like to know if Ontario Works will cover your insurance costs, your best approach would be to contact them directly. I don't know the full extent of your situation, and therefore cannot give you a fair assessment.

You can reach OW in  two ways, you can find an office closest to you on their site or you can call ServiceOntario (1-800-267-8097).

Set up an appointment and explain your situation to them and they will be able to provide you with assistance.

    Good luck!

    Hi Anonymous,

There could be a number of reasons why your program is not showing up.

For starters, just because your school is approved by OSAP does not mean your specific program will be too. Check with the Financial Aid office at your school to make sure your program is approved by OSAP.

Also, try searching for Bachelor of Science separately from your major in Biology. OSAP requires that you apply to each program separately.

But contacting the Financial Aid office at your school is a good place to start.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Sam,

I can understand your frustration, it is always easier to speak to someone in person.

The best thing for you to do is contact ServiceOntario (1-800-267-8097), set up an appointment with them and talk to someone about your situation.

It is important that you speak to them because everyone's situation is unique. They will be able to provide you with information about EI and see if you qualify.

If you would like to know the number of hours which are required to apply for EI in your region, you can find out here. Simply enter your postal code and click under EI Economic Region Name for the exact figure.

As for Ontario Works, again, contacting your nearest office for an appointment is the best approach. You can find closet office here. Set up an appointment with an OW worker and they will be able to answer any questions you have.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I have read online many student comments which say that they are not finding the name of their programs when applying for OSAP on the OSAP website, and unfortunately i faced the same problem, my progam name is "honours bachelor of science with major in biology" and i didn't find something which matches it, and there is another choice which lets you just type your program name but it is not recommended, so please tell me what to do???

  • How do I apply for OSAP?   5 weeks 3 days ago

    Hi Anonymous,

You can apply for OSAP right now.

The OSAP website has all the information to apply. You will need to create an account and register.

For this, you will need to know the name of your program and the name of your school and provide other documents.

For more information, if you are a full-time student or a part-time student, you can find step-by-step instructions right on the OSAP site.

    Good luck!

I will be starting my 2nd year as an university student this Fall term (Sept.)

I have never applied for OSAP, because I was never eligible. But now I think I might be.

When is the deadline to apply? Is it still 90 Days before the term ends?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

A few weeks ago I finished my Master's degree. I currently work for the government, but it's only a 7-week placement. Over the past year I've built my resume quite well and feel more confident, but I will be without work and income starting next week. I am unbelieveably stressed. I thought this would be the most exciting time of my life - a time where all of my hard work, excellent grades and determination would start to pay off. Instead, I'm developing high blood pressure because I am unable to find permanent employment.

I don't have enough hours to apply for EI, as I live in Hamilton and have only worked approx. 500 'workable' hours over the past year. I'm writing to ask you if I would be eligible. I've used the eligibility estimator but I need someone other than an automated program to tell me that someone in my position is eligible.

For me, the issue is making the transition from full time school to ful time work. I have no safety net during this transition and feel like system has let me down. How someone who has worked as hard as I have is contemplating social assistance is a major blow to one's integrity.

So, if I do qualify, would I be able to use some sort of internal job postings at OW? I have a Master's degree in Public Policy and have experience working with the government. How long would you expect someone like me to be on social assistance?

    Thanks for the response.

    Hi,

It sounds like you are going through a really difficult situation. But it is important for you to know what you are not alone, there are people and services that can help you.

First of all, if you are having problems at home and you want to talk to someone, you can talk to an adult at your school (like a teacher or guidance counselor). You can also call Kids Help Phone at 1-888-668-6868. They have experience dealing with similar issues and can provide you with advice.

If you do decide to move out, you can find information here about locating a youth shelter.

If you would like to apply for Student Welfare, you need to first get assessed to see if you qualify. You can do this at your nearest Ontario Work office. Simply provide them with your address, and they will find the closest office.

I hope your situation gets better soon. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

    Hello
Iam 17 years old going to be 18 in 3 months, and currently live with my paretns and my sibling. I am not happy with my everyday life at home, as I do have problems with most of my family memebers. The more time I stay in this house the more I feel like killing myself. I really would like to move out, but I dont no where or how to get started. I curretnly have a part time job and make about $100 a week. If possible would you tell me any permanent shelters or a place that youth can live in if their having problems at home. Or can I move out on my own, and the government will support me with residents... am guessing this is where student welfare comes in place. I dont want to run away and live on the streets because I know how thats going to end up, but I do want to move out. I want to be doing something I love as a career and my family is agianst it 100%. I want to acheive my dreams and ambitions but everyday i fell like Iam going to end up homeless. Your help will be truly appreciated. In my case any help will be appreciated. Please and thank you.

    Hi Christina,

    That's a great question.

However, I would need to know more information to provide a detailed answer.

Everyone's experience with OW is different depending on their situation. If you want to know how OW works, you can look here.

But in your situation, it is best that you contact OW directly with your question.

To find a OW office, call ServiceOntario (1-800-267-8097) or visit their site. Provide them with your address and they will be able to find your nearest office.

    Good luck!

Hi I just wanted to know how long the process takes to get OW?
And also, if I were to be accepted how long would it take to get the money?

  • How do I apply for OSAP?   8 weeks 3 hours ago

    Hi Mike,

When you apply for OSAP, you will need to already have a letter of acceptance from the school you will be attending. You will also need to provide OSAP with the name of the program and if you will be studying on a part-time or full-time basis.

So it is not possible to apply for OSAP before applying to a college.

However, you can find out how much money you may be able to get from OSAP’s estimator.

    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get my Driver's Licence?   8 weeks 4 hours ago

    Hi Anonymous,

Unfortunately, you have to pay the full amount of $125.00 when you visit a Driver's Examination Centre for the first time.

However, if you would like more information, you can contact your nearest Centre and ask them for details.

    Good luck!

Are you allowed to only pay $10.00 for your G1 test?

  • What is Ontario Works?   8 weeks 5 days ago

    Hi Tamara,

You mention that if you move out and get student welfare, you don't know how it will work. First off, before you leave there are some questions you can ask yourself in order to plan ahead. Here is a list of questions youth leaving home should ask themselves before they go.

If you want to apply for student welfare, you need to have "special circumstances" like if:

    • your parent(s) will not or cannot support you financially and/or will not let you live at home,
    • you are suffering from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, or
    • through no fault of your own, there is no home or financial support available from your family.

You mention you are fighting a lot with your family, but does this include emotional, physical or sexual abuse? If not, then it is unlikely that you qualify. If yes, and you plan on leaving home, contact an Ontario Works office near you. They will schedule a meeting with you, you can explain your situation, and they will tell you officially if you qualify or not.

  • What is Ontario Works?   8 weeks 5 days ago

    Hi Anonymous,

It sounds like your girlfriend is going through a very difficult time at home. If she needs to talk to someone about it, she can call the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868, or the the Assaulted Women's Helpline at 1-866-863-0511. If you ever think your girlfriend is in serious danger, call 911 for help.

If your girlfriend needs a place to stay other than her family's house, let her know that there are shelters for youth and women everywhere in Ontario (Where Can I Find a Shelter?).

Youth who are 17 years old can apply for student welfare (OW) if they are being abused and neglected at home. To be 100% sure that your girlfriend can apply, she should contact an Ontario Works office near her and explain her situation. They will schedule a meeting with her, and tell her officially if she qualifies or not.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

  • What is Ontario Works?   8 weeks 5 days ago

    Hi Anonymous,

It sounds like you're going through a lot of emotional stress from your family, so it is likely you qualify for OW. To know for sure if you are eligible for OW, you should contact an Ontario Works office near you. They will schedule a meeting with you, you can explain your situation, and they will tell you officially if you qualify or not.

If you need a temporary place to stay other than your friends, you stay at a shelter (What is a Shelter?). There are shelters for youth everywhere in Ontario (Where Can I Find a Shelter?).

If you need to speak to someone about your situation, you can always contact the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868. You can also use their bulletin board to talk to counsellors or other young people going through rough times.

    Hope that helps!

My daughter is the same age as you and was refused also.

They told her it was parents responsibility to support her since she has never been on her own. I think they actually get insrtucted to turn people away.

My suggestion is get legal aid and let a lawyer look after it or at least tell them that is what your intention is that you are not going to be homeless because of them.

  • How do I apply for OSAP?   9 weeks 2 days ago

Im a newly landed immigrant and wanted to spply for OSAP for the first time. Is it possible to apply for OSAP eventhough im not applying to any programs on colleges yet (im applying for next year)? I just wanted to make things set in advance. Is that possible?

  • What is Ontario Works?   9 weeks 3 days ago

    Hi Dan,

To apply for OW, you need to contact an Ontario Works office near you. Before you contact them, make sure you have your documents together. For example, you will need your social insurance number and any other ID you may have. Also provide documents verifying your status in Canada (if any). Tell them why you are calling, and they will schedule a meeting with you. At the meeting you can explain your situation, and they will tell you officially if you qualify for OW or not. You can look here if you need more information about Ontario Works.

To find the nearest OW office, call ServiceOntario (1-800-267-8097) or visit their site. Provide them with your address and they will be able to find your nearest office.

If you do get kicked out and don't have a place to stay, think about staying at a shelter (what is a shelter?). There are shelters for youth everywhere in Ontario (where can I find a shelter?).

    Hope that addresses your concerns!
